GOD’S WILL (Matthew 6 v 10b)
In Matthew chapter 6, from verse 9 to 13, Jesus taught us how to pray:
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallow be thy name, thy kingdom come
“Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven…” Matthew 6 v 10b
Our focus is on the 10th verse of Matthew chapter 6.
Jesus was telling us to pray for God’s will to be done; God’s will to be done in every aspect of our lives. But come to think of it in reality, most times, we find it difficult as children of God, to say this prayer “thy will be done”. We rather prefer to pray for our own will to be done instead of God’s will. Let us see below, some of the reasons we as Christians find it hard to pray “thy will be done”.
- Fear: Fear of the unknown has crippled the destinies of many Christians and has hindered us from possessing our inheritances. We need not fear as the bible admonishes us to come boldly to the throne of grace (Hebrew 4 v 16).
- Ignorance: Some find it difficult to pray “thy will be done” because they don’t even know what the will of the Lord is. In Jeremiah 29 v 11, the bible tells us that God’s plans for us are plans of good and not of evil; with this understanding, we can confidently pray “thy will be done”.
- Anxiety: In Philippians 4 versus 6, the Bible encourages us not to be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God.
- Doubt: At times when we pray, we also doubt if what we prayed for will be given to us/if our prayers will be answered. This happens as a result of lack of trust in God. When we pray, we are to believe we have received what we prayed for (Mark 11 v 24). We have to believe to overcome doubt.
- Your perspective of God: Who you know God to be is who he will be to you. Very few Christians, see/know God as a father, most of us just know him as a God; it is as a result of this that we cannot boldly say “thy will be done”.
Jesus taught us to pray and say “Our Father” not “Our God”. When we see God as our father, we will have no reservation to pray your will be done (2Corinthians 6 v 18).
Pray: Lord, let your will be done
